Would hardly call knocking out 61 german panzers over 9 days of close quarter fighting with SS men a failure man!!!! Even the SS said it was the hardest battle they ever fought since Stalingrad. The 1st Airborne went above and beyond the call of duty. Words my grandfather used,a 156 Batt para who survived it all. Respect wheres its due,the canadians came up against a very shaken and bloodied enemy thanks to my grandfather & his pals.

I've never heard of any division, German or otherwise, that ever exceeded 19,000 men and both 9th and 10th SS Panzer, which constituted II SS Panzer Corps, were seriously understrength because of the mauling they had received in the Normandy battle.
