Speaking from my observations of her lectures at multiple forums, my point was that people too easily accept these remarkable theories. I am aware that her stance is that these are merely theories and they are not proven, but are being tested. My issue is not with Randall herself, but rather with the fan boy who would benefit from a little intellectual independence.

Orkist, people would do well to understand that there are thousands of fundamental theories of physics, most of which contradict each other in some respects. We have to remember that these ideas have not been uniquely supported by experiment.

Am I the "fanboy" to whom you refer, orkist? You have apparently concluded -wrongly- that my playful comment about finding Randall attractive amounts to an unreserved endorsement of her ideas. I am not a physicist, but my knowledge of physics is far from menial and my (unexpressed) opinion of her work is, for better or worse, quite autonomous.

This isn't a comment on this specific video, but I am reading your book, Warped Passages and while listening to the GooGoo Dolls' song 'Iris' this morning, I noticed what an appropriate "theme" lyric the chorus would be for your chapter 9 on Symmetry. The chorus, in part goes like this:
"And I don't want the world to see me,
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand.
When everything's made to be broken,
I just want you to know who I am"
In any event, I am thoroughly enjoying your book!

Unfortunately, I don't think this woman can explain her field clearly to the common moron. Brian Greene is much better at breaking this down. Dr. Randall seems to get tongue-tied in the zone between the technical and the non-technical, thus her "explanations" veer off into non-sequiturs. I hope that her book's doing well, and that she inspires a whole generation of young women to search for extra dimensions and keep their membranes. Perhaps she should follow the advice of PAM Dirac: "...."
