Nobody in Spain is annoyed with anything from the Basques besides terrorism. And you can see that going anywhere around the country. The Basques where there just like the Iberians, Tartesics, Celtiberians and Celts where, so the only difference is that they remained more isolated than the rest.

The problem is that a broad section of the population does not accept the legitimacy of the autonomous status quo. They want proper independece. They want the Guardia Civil and Spanish Military to leave the basque territory altogether. They want a complete foreign policy of their own.
They also want the 800 eta-related prisioners to be moved to basque prisons and eventually to be released.
Your 2nd question is hard to answer. Economic crisis usually follows social tensions, but who knows.

Why not let the Basque people have a referendum on sovereignty? Canada has allowed Quebec to have TWO referendums. What are you so afraid of? Why do Spaniards want Basques to be part of Spain if this is not what the Basque people want? A referendum would decide the matter one way or the other. If I were a Spaniard I wouldn't want the Basque people to be part of my country IF THEY DIDN'T WANT to be part of my country.

our understanding of euskerra has come a long way since this was filmed... as has historiography. euskera is an isolate language in europe, possibly brought from the middle east when sumaria was still a nation. i speak fluent french and some spanish--- how hard would it be for me to learn basic euskera ?

´t favor independence at all but I favor voting about it. Not every basque wants to seceed from spain, don´t let them sell you that assumption. It is way more complex than that.

Perhaps there is violence precisely because the Spanish state won't allow a referendum. I have no views on the subject, but I think the Basques should be allowed to have a vote to determine what they want. If they choose union with Spain, FINE. But they should be ALLOWED to choose. If I WAS A SPANIARD, I wouldn't want someone to be part of my country if they DIDN'T want to be part of it.

é mucho sobre este tema, pero creo que con todos los respetos la pregunta parece una tontería. En primer lugar tengo entendido que los primeros pobladores europeos vinieron del Cáucaso, es decir, del límite meridional entre Europa y Asia (por tierra).

En segundo lugar, creo que los vascos, al igual que otros pueblos de la cornisa cant
ábrica y los pirineos, por ejemplo, estuvieron algo más aislados que el resto durante mucho tiempo, simplemente es eso. Corregidme si me equivoco.

Bueno, eso creo que lo sabemos todos ha habido infinidad de estudio genetico-antropologicos... y siempre ha habido resultados similares aunque no perfectos. Lo que es raro es que las variantes geneticas europeas sean tan homogeneas, y como hubo glaciaciones en europa que la hacian inabitable (se dice que pirineos y cornisa cantabrica fueran resguardos impotantes en su epoca),
