The Dynamic Tower design is made up of 80 pre-fabricated apartments which will spin independently of one another.
"It's the first building that rotates, moves, and changes shape," said architect David Fisher, who is Italian, at a news conference in New York. "This building never looks the same, not once in a lifetime," he added. The 420-metre (1,378-foot) building's apartments would spin a full 360 degrees,
at voice command, around a central column by means of 79 giant power-generating wind turbines located between each floor. The slender building would be energy self-sufficient as the turbines would produce enough electricity to power the entire building and even feed extra power back into the grid,
said the Italian architect at the unveiling of the project in New York. The apartments, which will take between one and three hours to make a complete rotation, will cost from $3.7m to $36m. There are also plans to build a similar, 70-storey skyscraper in Moscow. "I call these buildings designed by
time, shaped by life," said the Florence-based architect, who has never built a sky-scraper before. "These buildings will open our vision all around, to a new life." The skyscraper will cost an estimated $700m to build and should be up and running in Dubai in 2010. Find more at www.dynamicarchitec

I'm with ogschizo, why can't you just mind your own business if they want a twirling tower then they've got it. If you were to design a building and everyone says it wouldnt work would you give up? I'm sure you would say no cause you know that it would work!
Here's the thing ... ( 3 months ago by plasterdbastard)
Here's the thing about freedom. You are entitled to your freedom and rights, so long as your freedom and rights do not impact upon those of another person. If you treat topics such as the energy crisis too cavalierly, you will end up harming other people. It's the same as if we let everyone with the inclination have an assault rifle.
Also, if you want me to mind my own business, don't post videos on a public forum. I was just commenting on the ludicrous amount of energy that would be needed.
What if is this ... ( 3 months ago by dasteufelhund)
What if is this dual powered? Like solar and wind?
Yeah, dual power is ... ( 3 months ago by plasterdbastard)
Yeah, dual power is a possibility, particularly in Dubai. The only problem is one of cost. Solar panelling is expensive, and it would need to cover a large portion of the exterior to garner enough energy as the building rotates into the shade.
Between the two you could do it, or at least close to it.
I think one of the items that may be fuzzy is that I am arguing whether you can fully make a building of this size self sufficient. Others might be just talking about the spinning's independence.
By the way, this ... ( 3 months ago by plasterdbastard)
By the way, this architect has never made a skyscraper before... hardly a "world expert".
I'll give you that he is visionary, but that's it.
that's tremendous ... ( 3 months ago by dasteufelhund)
that's tremendous amount of stress on the core if it has to hold 79 wind blades and constantly spinning, any idea what size or lubrication they would put in place? Or perhaps even electromagnetic like the magnetic train and its tracks? So there is no parts moving against each other.

true ^ and plasterbastard, why are u so negative about dubai? why cant u just trust them since they are one of the most powerful cities in the world.

well, we know about arabs not only they are rich and their attitude toward U.S so it's given you can't trust them.
I'm not negative ... ( 3 months ago by plasterdbastard)
I'm not negative about Dubai. It's in a beautiful country that I've travelled to many times, and the people are very friendly. In fact, I enjoy the people all over the Arabian Peninsula.
Did you also read dasteufelhund's post above where he criticizes the design? Do you agree with that? Or are you going to give him a thumbs down - like you've been giving me - for not being a sheep and telling you that this is a shining pinnacle of man's quest to conquer stationary apartments?
Yeah, that was what ... ( 3 months ago by plasterdbastard)
Yeah, that was what I was initially saying as well. It's got a factor of risk associated with it because of the stress that such contortion would generate on the core of the structure. Not to mention that the structure would be entirely dependent on the core for stability. There is only one load bearing structure here - the hollow cylindrical core which will also undoubtedly carry the stairs and elevator(s). That's a lot of weight for such a structure. Essentially, these are all cantilevers.
You overlooked one ... ( 3 months ago by dasteufelhund)
You overlooked one small and very important fact that David Fischer is not an engineer by any maeans. He may have had experiences from the past but that does not qualify him as bona fide engineer. The ratio of designing or inventing(creative)anything has always be greater than the actual limit of physical engineering. Please understand that.

wait a minute I thought this was supposed to be apartments for rich people, not an amusement park ride that has to have the vomit hosed out every half hour. the building cant possibly be wiggling about looking cool and all like that, this is deceptive advertising.

p & xaace : I am a registered architect. I asked the question what the temperature inside the concrete cylinder building core will be if a fire similar to the one in 9/11? 1,000 degrees? But my comments were censored as if the building architect could not come up with one! If the floors burned and fell down, what good is the concrete core still standing there?! Now talk about casualties,9/11 had 2,700 perished; how many would you expect to die in the next fire like 9/11 in here?-dancewu(dot)net

Actually I already have the answer to my stupid question! Since my comments were usually censored, let me try again! My answer: In order not to repeat the 9/11 tragedy-----DO NOT build single core high-rises any more!---my design is to build sky-bridges connecting multi-towers!---dancewu(dot)net

Doctorate degree in architecture a dime a dozen in Italy, the only country in the world that gives dorctorate degree in the world. There was a professor I worked for after college in 1963,had such a degree from Italy. His architecture was average and below! So do not be intiminated by some one with such a title,PLASTERDBASTARD FROM CANADA. You were right, this is a public forum, if you feel Dr.Fisher sounds fishy, by all means speak up. DO NOT BE INTIMINATED! I AM ON YOUR SIDE!--dancewu(dot)net
