What people need to understand is that the Japanese people themselves were being victimized by their Emperor and the war lords. Not all of them wanted to abandon Western culture or fight us, but they were at the mercy of a regime as ruthless as the Nazis. Their own beliefs were used to control them, and then there was the "thought police". Had the people been allowed to surrender earlier, we (supposedly) wouldn't have had to drop the Bomb.

doesn't excuse what they did, there actions against australian, indian and british pow's, is inexcusable. Many forget that the japenese used to eat their prisoners when their food supplies ran out, they used to cut the pow's muscles off while they were still alive.

Oh, I don't excuse what they did by any means. The things they did over in the Philippines and Manchuria were quite horrible and made me angry when I saw the films. I just want people to understand there was another side to the whole thing.
