*smirk* Look up Robert A Taft. Man was VERY anti-war, didn't even want to fight in WWII. Neither did Hoover. FDR was tripping over himself to get into it. Truman became involved in Korea. It was Eisenhower that got us out. Lyndon B. Johnson may have accused Barry Goldwater of being a warmonger, but everything Barry suggested doing HE DID, and THEN some. Bush is a horrible warmonger, yet Clinton bombed Iraq (and Kosovo, and Sudan) during his administration.

This doesn't even begin to include Woodrow Wilson, who not only wanted in WWI (as did Theodore Roosevelt but that's beside the point) but actively praised "The Birth of a Nation", the movie that REBIRTHED the Ku Klux Klan. Of course, Reagan pulled a lot of conservative democrats from that party and into the Republican party. Which may be why things seem off kilter now a days with the neoconservatives (I swear to God, Bush, Huckabee, and McCain are all just the old democrats repackaged).

You have to understand that in Nazi Germany companies remained private in name only. The state controlled production through quotas, price controls and other forms of regulation. The free market does not serve the nation, hence a nationalist wants a system that does, which can only occur through government control through ownership or regulation.

Actually both the Nazi party and Italy were using a form of Keynesian economics, which encouraged autrarky and a self-sufficient ecosystem of economics not effected by the outside world, which is why italy managed to walk about unscathed by the depression. Also German fiscal policy stopped being restrictive and turned "Keynesian" as soon as Hitler took power. Government spending increased almost immediately, helping to pull Germany out of the depression.

The focus on Hitlers economic policies seems wildly off point at best. He was a malignant narcissist who was obsessed with racial purity, Tuetonic myth and the endless expansion of power. He came to power via appealing to the basest instincts of the German populace [ recently humiliated and extremely impoverished. The lesson is obvious for present day America; beware of fear mongering, rampant militarism and the expansion of executive power.

What form of socioeconomics were the Nazi's using? What exactly made the socialists? Although the party's 1925 program made some rhetorical concessions to the socialist element, this was never central to the party's policies nor was it ever an economic factor in the party.
