There are many sociological extensions in this short which everybody is able to watch and also to hear. It is "this/these" afflictions and affections and there associated attachments which makes this movie so vitally important for humanistic growth and understanding. There is however, a subliminal paradox which I believe was unintentional.TY.

I think, and I've heard other interpretations, that it's the first scene we see where they address homosexuality in the movie. For the most part, they really focus on the fact that Andrew has AIDS.
If you recall from the movie, Joe tells Andrew he was taught that "queers" are sissies, perverts, and only want to get in your pants. Before the party, his partner fears there isn't much time for them left. So during this scene, I think Andrew is talking about the love he feels for his partner.
