Roger Waters and Syd Barrett (Genius R.I.P) are the true Pink Floyd. David Gilmour is a talented guitarist (but a fairly loathsome individual), the others were irrelevant and inconsequential and would have been easily replaced. I think some of the well meaning yet misguided Syd fans need to realise that Roger Waters is the man who made sure that Syd got the royalties he deserved after he left the band, and was also responsible for writing the Syd inspired albums like Shine on and The Wall.

basically , the problem with the band was that roger waters is a decent socialist, and his father was a member of the communist party, and the others are greedy self serving right wing old school tie boys. But i particularly dislike the way Turkey neck Gilmour talks about Syd , because if it wasnt for Syds breakdown, Gilmour would never have even been in Pink Floyd. And rightly so....

I find it hard to listen to either half of Pink Floyd without feeling a loss. I think Roger Waters was at his best when David Gilmour was around to temper the music and equally David at his best when Roger was there to add the edge. I wish things had ended differently and they'd managed to keep it together. It's all very sad to me.

The only sad thing is what happened to Syd Barrett, the others are all very wealthy ,happy old men. The real tragedy is poor old Syd, he was the true genius, Waters too, has a lot of class. You should stop moaning anyway, they made loads of albums, nothing lasts forever you know. Try listening to Syd's albums, they are sublime....

It's actually about a rock star who loses interest in fame and builds a wall around himself. Who does that sound more like to you? Roger or Syd? You dopey mug. It has elements of Roger's life in it too though, as it depicts his childhood, Water's father was also killed in the second world war. So i suppose you have a point, but for me it's about Syd. Thats why those other fatheaded right wing idiots in the band started sulking. Because they wanted the limelight, they wanted to forget about Syd.

wow. you're a bitter little person aren't you. the wall was written by waters, as i'm sure you know, and was inspired by a show at the olympic stadium in montreal where he spit on an audience member. then he took a step back and thought, "has it really come to this?" and after thought of wanting to create a wall between himself and his audience "the wall" was born. i'm sure syd had an influence, but it's roger's experiences that birthed the wall.
