We already have ...( 1 year ago by ferozsalam01)
We already have most of the technology over there
For example, we've surpassed the graphics capabilities, got the flash storage, the tablet PCs, the video conferences. All we don't have is the human-PC interface, that's all.
Admittedly, that's a big part of the whole thing.

Let's see what we do have but was unthinkable then:
* When the AI says "now printing", we assume a wireless connection and a home network, two ridiculous concepts in 1987.
* The idea that everybody would be connected was new.
* The "video phone" in the computer, now is iChat or something similar.
* Searching for an article in a University database from home is an everyday thing.
* the computer reminds me a bit of the first iBook.

Just 6 years after this was made, we had speech recognition in our macs. How time flies.

We can actually do all of this today.. with google, voice recognition and email. might take 30 minutes or so rather than 5 though ;)
So we really already have this, we just lack the refinement and ease of use of this knowledge navigator!

Let's see, we now have Wireless Networking, Global Internet, Screen Sharing (via iChat) (ie so you can view each-other's screens), portable computers, touch screen (as was implied by the lack of keyboard/mouse), voice recognition, global searching (google), hell, someone's even developped a paper-like screen! all we need now is for apple to tie it all together.

Yeah, just watching this it felt like they predicted the future of computers. Although the fact they were doing research on CO2 levels/global warming in the year 2006 is spooky! O.o

yea yea yea. The future is here. a third grader could do this research in an afternoon. but it's all thanks to broadband internet, google, and wikipedia. not a table-top video conferencing gadget.
