in no defense of the media whatsoever (they do alter the truth and they do cater to corporate interests) you can't wholly blame the reporters on the scene. they're in the middle of what looks like an angry mob that's screaming "fuck the corporate media". it's not unreasonable to be frightened by that. that said, there needs to be greater protection of protesters' 1st Amendment rights, it's absurd that you are prevented from saying what you want to say.

also, the POINT of arguing for freedom of speech (and protest) is so that there can be a fair and equal exchange of ideas, and people can decide for themselves what is best. surrounding, harassing, and ripping the sign of others who are also expressing their opinion is unconstitutional, no matter if you agree with them or not. if you want people to respect your right to protest, you need to do the same. that said, that reporter talking about the "violent protest" is an idiot.

corporate media makes me so angry. Either they depict it like this or not at all. I'm from Arizona. I took part in some pretty sizable protests around the time Bush was campaigning for his 2nd term. AZ media chose to ignore the protests all together and only showed positive footage of the presidents visit. I'd love to take part in a media protest. Beats throwing things at my TV set.

100% agree!! it is very unfortunate that we have a lot less freedom than we are told. the government should not rule in fear, yet the majority of our population allow it to continue. and when any group wants to protest ANYTHING that might be progressive or different from what is today, the media distorts the image into something scary and anti-american. news stations care more about ratings than they do the world around them. this kind of shit has to stop!
