I wasted soooo much time listening to fusion in the 70's and 80's. Ugggghhh. All these guys are monsters but they've all done way better work than this dreck - and I used to listen to this record daily. This is almost as bad as Return To Forever's Romantic Warrior.

Nah - taste is subjective but ask Holdsworth how proud he is of this. Like I said, 90% of my record collection was prog or fusion at that time and about 25% of that stuff hold up today . The rest is either a bunch of guys waiting for their turn to solo or really embarassing songs or dated synth sounds. "Lark's Tongue"-era Crimson sounds way less dated than this hoo-hah.

Allan doesn't speak well of anything he does but he says he'd join a UK reunion if they would ask them, and he certainly includes this album on his select discography. You need to relisten to the album, apparently. Taste has nothing to do with it or else we'd listen to know-nothings say Bach was dreck, etc. and they'd say they were justified since it's their personal taste/opinion. We all know that's nonsense.

Nope, I'm saying that there are definitely thousands of folks out there that know far more about music than you or I (musicians, conductors, whoever) that would think that UK wasn't all that great, tunes were simply OK as tunes but more just an excercise in unison playing in tricky time signatures. Also - because Muddy Waters' music was simple w/ 3 chords at most and he never played in 9/8 time he's obviously far less an important musician than say - Eddie Jobson. Right ? It's all subjective...

Here's another opinion. I was a musician in those days, and UK was an awesome band. Each musician in his own right was exceptional. Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull knows talent when he sees it, thats why Eddie Jobson went to Jethro Tull after.
