Ya im sure that all ... ( 7 months ago by doubledd28)
Ya im sure that all 20 of those cars were driven by California transplants, cmon. That is the most erroneous stereotype ever! Funny too cause i just spent the last decade of my life living where it snows 400 inches a year on average(yes in California) and our community had to deal with these conditions(and WAY worse) almost 5 months out of the year. Not just 2 days a year. And i was never involved in one accident. Go figure...
I said LOTS of ... ( 7 months ago by gorgegirl4)
I said LOTS of people move from California and don't know how to drive. When was the last time you saw snow in Los Angeles or San Diego? I happen to be in a job that I know where people move from - and they don't know that you don't even attempt to drive on icy hills.
I've told a couple ... ( 7 months ago by yetanotheraccount2re)
I've told a couple local people about this video and they said it's the natives who don't know how to drive on this, because it happens so seldom. They don't put chains or studs on. And, that the city won't spend money on the quantity of snow-clearing gear it would take to really tackle the problem, again because they use the money on more common road maintenance. A bit of sand and a load of salt would've fixed this hill. The locals tell me, stay home and don't park on the streets.
PS- If you're ... ( 7 months ago by yetanotheraccount2re)
PS- If you're driving and you start to slide, get off the brake and steer. Your tires will do their best to grip, but they can't if they're not rolling. Keep your tires rolling and you'll have more options for safety. Drive as if you're in a boat on water and you'll have the tools you need -An Alaskan
oh my god... why ... ( 7 months ago by stormer123456)
oh my god... why don`t you guys learn people to drive on snow and ice then? if you keep breaking on snow or ice your car won`t stop! in Norway we have course where you learn to drive on snow and ice before you are allowed to drive at all!
but is impossible ... ( 7 months ago by GGLBAD)
but is impossible to drive in the snow or in the ice how the people "learn" to drive in the snow

I swear it was snow. I saw this video like forty times all day long. I'm certain it was snow.

He wasn't pressing his foot on the gas, it is a steep hill and he was sliding down it without a sled!
I drive this road ... ( 7 months ago by salemcripple)
I drive this road all the time. And it's VERY steep, and on that day there was a solid sheet of ice under the snow. Youre tires arn't going to catch traction, rolling or not, in a zero friction enviroment, on that steep of a slope. But what you said is good advice none the less, for flat road driveing.
Acualy he's right! ... ( 7 months ago by salemcripple)
Acualy he's right! There are a whole lot of California transpants here, and i do mean A WHOLE HELL OF A LOT! Just my street alone, out of 11 houses, there are two hispanic familys (from south of the boarder), two native Oregonian familys (includeing my own), and the rest are from Cali. My friend, who just moved into a newly built sub-division, almost every single car on his street, still has California plates. And yes, they are notorisly bad drivers when it comes to snow!
Acualy it WAS ice, ... ( 7 months ago by salemcripple)
Acualy it WAS ice, covered by about an inch of snow. We had freezing rain half the night, covering everything, EVERYTHING with atleast an inch of solid ice. Then it started snowing, Then after that, it froze again, all in one night!
It is true that ... ( 7 months ago by salemcripple)
It is true that people here don't know how to drive in the snow. And it's true that we don't have alot of snow plows here, because it never snows. But even the best of "snow drivers" wouldn't have been able to get down this hill without a fight (the BMW got lucky). And we don't use salt on the roads, because it's bad for the roads, bad for the cars, and bad for the enviroment. Instead we use a bio degradeable substute. And even then, only on main roads.
I don't care how ... ( 6 months ago by pharrison666)
I don't care how many wheel drive you have, going down a hill covered in ice you really have no options, regardless of your driving ability. The only thing you can do is use chains/studs. On a steep hill you dont have a choice but to brake.

i think it's understandable that it's hard to drive in snow. but rain? you should see the idiots that can't drive in the rain!
The problem isn't ... ( 3 months ago by Andrewcranky)
The problem isn't the rain, per-say.
It's the oil and grime that collectes on the streat, and then forms an oily film on the road when it rains after a long dry spell.

It'd have been great if after the fire truck got to the scene the firemen sprayed the street with water and then drove off.
