(this follows on from below) Many of the studio recording techniques you hear on the radio today and take for granted were pioneered in the 80's. The early 80's saw early electronic instruments being used in new and exciting ways, the mid 80's began to develop that "four to the floor" driving dance technique you hear everywhere today (just listen to the human leagues very own "empire state human")

I completely agree! They used the synthesizers to make great melodies, not just sound effects (i.e. Open Your Heart, The Things That Dreams are Made Of, Seconds, Darkness, etc.) Also another masterpiece of that time period, Simple Minds' "New Gold Dreams". A GREAT time for music back then. :)
