Had the privilege to see Wilco in their early years - probably '96-'97?
It was in Nashville at a free outdoor concert,"Dancin' In The District", held each Thursday during the Summer on the terraced grassy area of Riverfront Park (the bands set up on a barge on the Cumberland River, tied against the park area)... Wilco was in the line-up of several great rockin' groups - as was typical for DID.
Also saw Keb'Mo' free at a DID concert - before HE got popular!... Ah, Good Times!!

Wilco is heavily country-influenced. But perhaps they would be better categorized as, say, alternative folk rock, along the lines of bands like Cowboy Mouth...

Have you heard the album sky blue sky yet? IT is pretty far from country. Just because you may here a lap steal in the back ground does not necessarily make the band country. But anyways i can see what your saying about Wilco's country roots. i just think it shows the true diversity of this great band.

their early stuff is highly underrated... "Being There" is perhaps my favorite; before they got ambitious they were just a fun folk-rock band. If you really dig their early stuff than check out early Uncle Tupelo as well!
