Getting shot down and held prisoner does not equal foreign policy experience, anymore than being shot during a robbery qualify you to be a Chief of Police.
Does it make him a brave man who's been through a lot? Certainly. Should we make him President because of it? Well, not on that basis, no. You need better reasons than that we feel bad for his luck during war.

I don't invalidate anyone's suffering, McCain's or your dad, but there are many patriotic people of character, and McCain is trying to trade on his suffering that it means he should be president. He also admits he doesn't know much about the economy but has Gramm to advise him (nation of whiners?) and never bothered to take part in his own committee's hearings on Afghanistan.
