I have been looking through old 1st wave bands, and the oldest band, actually a deathrock band, i found was Theater of Ice, which is an American band. But they where formed out of a band made to make a soundtrack for a horror movie... It was about Mid 70s. Anyways..goth has way more roots in GlamRock, than Punk... I guess really all i'm saying is that Goth Rock sounds NOTHING like punk. Except for Punk bands that did Gothic stints, like "The Damned"

Goth took the sharper vibe from post-punk acts like Siouxsie and the synth influence from Krautrock. Developed into the kind of electro-driven thing that the Sisters and Bauhaus did but also the romo-goth thing that Wayne Hussey covered with The Mission and All About Eve, as well as the pop-py stuff that The Cure did, also later Banshees stuff. Definitely a punk background tho - Siouxsie was a member of the Bromley Contingent who followed the Pistols in their earliest days in London.

All you "newbie" goths who think you're so "dark" but, have no idea who the Sisters, Virgin Prunes, March Violets, Siouxsie, Bauhaus, Joy Division, Cure, Chameleons, (etc. etc.) are, keep on hanging out at Hot Topic with all the "emo" fools who you criticize cause you're no better... And just for the record, to all you goth club owners and MOST of the people who attend these during "goth" night, EBM is not goth. All you arrogant idiots need to listen to REAL goth bands like this. EBM sucks....

Well, I guess cause it's one of my fave. songs and the people who usually listen to this, (at least all of the ones I've met, have this exact sentiment..) Also, I miss THIS kind of music at "goth" clubs I've been to. If any of those club owners/goers see this, maybe, JUST MAYBE, it'll give them something to ponder... But hey, you're right, I might just be talking to the wind....
