This song has always been hauntingly beautiful, but now that I've read what it's based on, it's also become rather creepy. I first heard this song when I was a young teen "enjoying" those first crushes, and I just never picked up on the negative side of the lyrics. Thinking back to how it seemed then compared to how the song seems now...very strange. Absolutely amazing work though.

I can see a vampire singing this. Ok, so I've been reading a ton of vampire novels lately and seriously, this really does sound like a vampire story. A tragically lonely vampire but still, a vamp.
