Handel is a genius. This is one of most beatiful pieces that handel composed for a singer.
I would like so sing it some day.
And the divine voice of Cecilia integrate so wonderfully with the piece.

He later used the same melody in his opera Rinaldo, the more famous aria "Lascia ch'io pianga mia cruda sorte e che sospiri la libert à" (Let me weep my cruel fate and let me sigh for liberty). Handel often use the same melodies (if he liked it) in his different operas.

Guess it's just a matter of preference. For me, the vibrato helps convey the poignancy of this aria. And I'm not always wild about her vibrato.
