If I'm not mistaken, the girl in the middle of the back-up singers is Darlene Love.

No, that is not true. He didn't play drums for James Brown. However he did briefly work as a "session drummer" with Smokey Robinson and the Miracles.

That's right. He played on Shop Around. However, Marvin's former singing partner the late Tammi Terrell did sing with James on his Wand Label but she didn't have any success. Also, Tammi was considered to be the top replacement for Diana Ross when she left the Supremes in 1970 but she died of a brain hemmorage in Marvin's arms. He was so tramautized, that he didn't perform live for many years.

On the original record, it was Martha Reeves and the VanDellas, but on this live performance, the backup group was The Blossoms. They often worked singing background for "Shindig". Darlene Love was kind of their leader--the cute one in the middle.
And one side note, on "Can I Get a Witness?" the Supremes were on the background in the studio--back before they ever had a hit record.
