There are five ...( 1 month ago by FandensOldemoder)
There are five named deities (gods) in the most reliable version of the old testament (written in Hebrew/Aramaic): Shaddaj, El, El Eljon, Shaitan og JHWH (JaHWeH - Hebrew doesn't have any wovels(a transcription to "Jehova" is linguistically impossible)).
El Eljon is da bigge boss.
There may be more - see e.g. (correctly translated) Genesis 6, v 1,2 & 4 "the gods saw, that ... + Psalms 82, v1 "El Eljon enters the assembly of gods" + Job 1, v6. "the gods ... among them was also Shaitan".

Alone in our galaxy ...( 1 month ago by FandensOldemoder)
Alone in our galaxy - today?
Our Sun seems to be an "afterthought".
Most stars in our galaxy seem to have been created 7E9 to 9E9 years ago.
Our Sun is only 4.6E9 years old.
According to present star models, when our Sun reaches an age of about 6.5E9 years, the oceans will evaporate and life will become extinct.
Assuming an extraterrestrial civilization reached Earth a few E9 years back, if they did build observation stations on Earth, these may have been removed by plate tectonics.
E9 is 1 billion ( ...( 1 month ago by FandensOldemoder)
E9 is 1 billion (English) = 1,000,000,000
so 4.6E9 = 4,600,000,000

this is true. not to mention, even if you were entrenched in a bunker or something, with that many nukes going off, there would be ridiculous amounts of electromagnetic interference for a very long time. Idk about you, but i don't want to try and live through nuclear winter without a space heater D:

Europa and Eo weren't seen as interesting in these times. There were actually some pretty mad theories about Jupiter's "surface".
Well yes, there can ...( 1 month ago by Polytical)
Well yes, there can be no knowledge of something we have no means to know. This is just an estimate. One to make people think that life and civilisation is just a matter of probability.
Even though the equation may be pretty much flawed, it's useful to think of the human race as the result of such a statistical improbability we are.
Sagan's work in general is a plea towards people to take responsibilty for their actions, rather than subjecting themselves to some forcefully spread authority.

How can you say there's no scientific base whatsoever Frank. This is an equation based on the mathematics of probability, not wishful thinking as you put it.If there isn't or hasn't ever been other life in the universe, it is as Carl would say "an awful waste of space".

You would be surprised how many microorganisms you would find on grains of sand on the "beech"(Beach). No proof saying there is or isn't life out there but space is huge and even the smallest odds are likely. Say the odds are 1 in 100 billion. 400 Billion stars(suns) in our own galaxy not counting the billions of other galaxies. Have an open mind unless everything I said went over your little head. I don't think it's wishfull thinking more like reality and putting 2 and 2 together.

If you think about it they are probably so many close calls in our solar sytem. Mars could have been like planet earth, but it's Iron core got solid causing it magnetic field to disappear, but if it was alittle more massive it would be like earth. Venus has too much CO2 so it's 500 C. If Titan only had water. Europa could even have life. Look at how many close calls. I could name more, but my word count is running out.

Seems unlikely to have two habitable worlds per system. The vast majority of planetary systems will have elliptical orbits, hotter suns etc, meaning several planets but no chance of life.
but Carl Sagan FTW!
