Peopel are comparing them becuase they are both very successful trios. They are fantastic bands and each have one of the best drummers in the world. They have two very different sounds though. I do prefer Rush though.

If you're gonna compare Copeland to another drummer, how about Ringo Starr of The Beatles? Both have rock-solid timing and no useless, fancy unneeded pyrotechnics. The contribute exactly what's needed to take the music as high as possible. Instead of distracting attention toward themselves, they focus attention on the song as a whole, organic piece of music. They are different in the that Ringo appears laid back, and Copeland looks intense, but I think the similarities are great otherwise.

1) of all stewart copeland rushes every single song in the live concerts. the only reason he's so consistent here is becuz he is playing to a track. 2) ringo starr's drumming is no doubt consistent...but thats all it is, consistent. its the same beat over and over again. stewart changes the beat everysingle time. 3) stewart copeland plays over the top on every track and i dare starr to play like that. in short, copeland is an amazing drummer ringo is not. but i love the beatels though
