After hearing Carly and Michael cover The Letter on American Idol, I wondered who originally made it famous. I like The Box Tops and Joe Cocker's versions, but like Carly & Micheal's duet the best.

This is prob one of the 1st times The Box Tops did this show (on TV?) This is just so cute to look at. The band itself acted so shy and that's why the audience behaves like this (I tink!). If they knew this wld become a huge hit, they wldhave acted more with enthusiasm, incl. the band.

The Letter by the Box Top is one of the first 4 45's I bought when I was about 9 in 1967 .

My Dad was in Nam, on r-n-r, when a water buffalo was chasing his jeep down some red dirt road in the middle of no-where, listening to this song full blast, laughing and told me how he first heard this song....I searched forever,bought him a cd player,and this cd on his b-day 5 years ago.....Great story behind that song!
